Bob Ross has been a great inspiration to many painters, and I’m no exception. Since I’ve been working as an instructor to “paint nights” for people who never paint or struggle to paint with confidence, I appreciate his gentle ways even more. Always teaching his techniques while encouraging others and maintaining that each painting is a personal universe where nothing is a mistake. This work is my tribute to Bob, as if he were carved into a mountaintop as a national landmark.
I made the main form of Bob Rossmore with a slab “coil” contsruction, building up a layer at a time, and press-molded the brushes from my own paintbrush collection. They can be rearranged or swapped out, making the piece functional as a paintbrush-holder! And of course, Bob’s got a little squirrel friend, napping in the back of his signature big perm.
